So, I feel good that I finally constructed my plan for the 2 of the binders I'll be using this year...my Teacher Binder and Student Data Binder. I don't have it assembled yet but I know what I'll be putting in it and frankly, that's something. Sorry that it really doesn't do anything for my readers =/ But, I promise, that when I get it together, I'll post!
My questions involve creating your own materials ~ for self and selling at some point in the future. For a long time, I have created my own items but they were very simple and boring. I've always been one to be more creative with things so with all the new (in techno time) programs and abilities for your average Joe, that got me excited. I know there are soooo many great programs out there but what are BASIC ones one should have to create products like we see on TPT and Teachers Notebook? I know Publisher and/or PowerPoint are great assets! Can Word be used? How do you create a PDF? What about graphics and font utilities? What is GIMP compared to other programs? Do I ask too many questions? =D
I have a pretty good knowledge of the programs but like we all know, there is a tremendous about of resources out there and I don't want to spend on things unnecessarily. Any tips, thoughts, suggestions are very much appreciated. Responses can be sent to my email (see profile).
And now for the best part of this post . . . a GIVEAWAY!

Happy Weekend everyone!

I just learned how to make some of the things that are seen on TpT. Someone else might have better ideas, but I use powerpoint. I have heard that word is harder to layer and move your graphics around. In powerpoint I always say as a powerpoint and then go back in and save as a PDF. It is in the drop down box as I'm saving on my verison 2010. As for graphics I love from the pond, 3 am teacher and there are several on TpT that are free. Make sure to remember who made it because some people don't have it on their work. Not sure if this really helps. If you have any other questions I would be glad to help if I can. I'm still learning myself;)

Thank you for that tip, Heather!
DeleteI usually use Publisher, but I don't have it at home :( All my good TPT making stuff is at school, so I have to be sneaky sometimes and work on it there. Word is okay, but like said, it's really hard to move graphics around, etc. The main thing I have to remember is to give credit for fonts and graphics, and make sure it is original (just like anything else you'd do!!) Have fun creating!! I just downloaded GIMP last week, so I'm still trying to play with it... good luck!

I just thought of one more thing...Teachers Notebook is coming out with their own version of a "Publisher-like" type interface where you can create things to sell and convert to PDF... It may not be ready yet, but I know they were working on it.

Thank you for the tips, Haley! I'll definitely be on the lookout for that from TN!
DeleteFor sure you should use powerpoint. Don't use word! Powerpoint you can layer and it is so much easier to make it work! :)
